| The giant credit card payment processing firm Heartland Payment Systems, may become the victim of the largest data breach to date. The Princeton, N.J.-based firm discovered it’s system contained malicious software in its systems that compromised the security of the data traversing its network. Heartland is unsure of exactly what data was effected, but they said, “no merchant data, cardholder Social Security numbers, unencrypted PIN numbers, addresses or telephone numbers were involved in the breach." Heartland processes 100 million credit and debit card transactions monthly. If so, it could be the world's biggest breach to date. Heartland is in the process of implementing a new system, which "flags network anomalies in real time and enable law enforcement to expeditiously apprehend cybercriminals." |
